When you walk into the building on a Sunday morning for our 10am service it is like arriving at a family gathering. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual, the people are warm and welcoming, and the reason for coming together is driven by Jesus. Our desire to be in authentic relationship with the triune God and each other shapes the morning. People linger in the foyer before the service begins for coffee and conversation, catching up with old friends, introducing themselves to new ones. Two or three huddle here or there praying for each other. Someone else sits quietly, enjoying the retreat from the current chaos of life. There is a fluidity to the environment, individuals moving at their own pace, eventually settling in the sanctuary for a time of worship. It is a sacred and celebrated time of singing praise, hearing the Word, and receiving communion. There is both familiarity and spontaneity in the rhythms of the morning, and people enjoy the freedom to respond to the movement of the Spirit within and around them. The responses vary—waving flags, raising hands, reverent silence, heartfelt song, thoughtful testimony, and passionate prayers, but there is a single object of our affection—Jesus. The texture and diversity of our worship is an affirmation that we are indeed many members, but one family—the family of God.
